It’s that time again, when frightening creatures appear all across the
country, moaning and growling unintelligibly, frightening us all – about the
sorry state of our congress! Yes, happy election season, folks!
To properly observe this time of year, we’re profiling two very important films:
Robert Greenwald’s Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers, and Ian
Inaba’s Sundance winner, American Blackout.
Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers is the latest bombshell from
super-activist/producer/director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of
Low Price, Outfoxed and Uncovered). It exposes private defense contractor firms
who are – right now – bilking all of us for their own gain through gross
negligence, straight-faced deception, and out-and-out theft. It illustrates the
terrible price we pay for having a congress unwilling to exercise any oversight
over federal defense spending. From providing disease-infested water to our own
soldiers, to running entirely empty convoys up and down dangerous Iraqi roads,
to providing totally unqualified translators, Halliburton, Blackwater, CACI are
all exposed as the basest of war profiteers.
American Blackout won the Special Jury prize at this year’s
Sundance festival – very unusual for a political doc. The film reveals the
scummy tactics used by conservative political operatives to systematically
disenfranchise Black voters over the past six years. Florida in 2000, Georgia in
’02 and Ohio in ’04 are all focused upon. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney’s
political career is also covered, showing the misquotes and misinformation
spread about her to discredit one of the most outspoken critics of the Bush
administration.
Both of these films are must-see. And only for you, the newsletter subscribers:

Both make great gifts for the intractable conservative in your family!
See you at the midterm celebrations,
