Folks,
DocWorkers forums are here!
Don’t be shy – share a doc you’ve loved in "Doc Lovers"; network with other
producers and directors in "Doc Makers"; check for submission deadlines and
festival dates on the Calendar; ask us a question in "DocWorkers Support." I
personally check in with the forums every day, so you can also have the dubious
privilege of yakking with yours truly.

Okay, new topic:
Mark Manning is a real stud, in the 21st Century sense of the term. Sure, he’s a
ruggedly handsome former oil rig diver with a healthy dose of self-deprecating
charm, but that’s not what makes him stud material to me (if I only had a dime
for every jackass I’ve known who fit the above description). No, a stud to me is
the guy who does what I say I should be doing, if only I had the guts and the
character to do it. A talk-walker.
Mark
Manning is a talk-walker. As a mission of reconciliation, Mark went to Jordan
with a group of American mothers who’d lost children in the fighting in Iraq.
There they met with Iraqi mothers who’d lost sons of their own. By way of this
moving meeting, Mark received an opportunity to go to Falluja to witness the
city that had just been decimated by U.S. troops.
He shot stunning footage of the city that has never been seen before. He also
learned the extent of the civilian tragedy that issued from the exercise in
Falluja, and has been on a crusade ever since, to raise awareness of the dire
need to help Iraqi civilians.
His short film, Caught in the Crossfire, was put together as a fundraiser for
aid to Iraqi civilian victims of war. It’s stunning, and everyone should buy it.
Support the cause for which Mark has been traveling all over, showing the film,
and speaking to groups large and small. Mark is also working on putting together
a feature length film on the subject of Fallluja; stay tuned…
